On Thursday night, January 12, Lake Las Vegas Sport Club hosted an open house to introduce its residents to pickleball. With a combination of permanent courts and double-striped tennis courts a big crowd turned up to learn more about the sport. Local ambassadors Mario Najera, Geri Grodzinsky, and Lisa Carter were on-hand to show the new picklers how much fun it is. A repeat session was held on Saturday morning, January 14, again to packed courts. Many of the same people came out on Saturday to practice their shots and learn more about play.
On January 9-11, tournament directors Mario Najera and Geri Grodzinsky hosted the first annual Bally’s Round Robin at the newly renovated pickleball courts at the Bally’s Hotel & Casino. The format was hugely popular since each team got to play many games instead of the 2 and out that happens in a standard tournament. The tournament also included a pizza party on Monday afternoon which was great after a long day of pickleball! Thanks Mario and Geri for hosting such a fun tournament!!
On Sunday, January 7, IPTPA-certified pickleball instructor Mario Najera hosted an “Introduction to Pickleball” class at the Plaza Hotel pickleball complex. The session was attended by 5 students who were eager to learn more about the sport. If you’d like to join an “Introduction to Pickleball” session please join the Southern Nevada Meetup group so you’ll know about upcoming sessions. https://www.meetup.com/southern-nevada-pickleball/
